ARTIST STATEMENT

I am drawn to the connection of humans through movement. The nonverbal expression of self that offers a piece of internalized thoughts, wordless opportunities of relation and understanding. I am attracted to dance for its ability to share stories of self within another's concept, offering a look into the perspective of a generalized idea. I admire storytelling, and the sharing of knowledge.

I dance to feel the energy through my bones. I enjoy diverse dynamics of movement and pushing the boundaries of my physical limits. I feel the most like myself in distal movements that elongate my joints, often with quick shifts into new ideas. Spiraling, twisting, inverting. I enjoy taking up space, expanding wide in my steps and allowing myself to embrace the length of my body. I also love a challenge, an opportunity to keep digging. There is always something more to discover.

I often make work that explores repetitive experiences within my life, allowing movement to reflect parts of myself that I cannot put into words. The vulnerability of sharing. I value collaboration and community within these choreographic spaces, especially in their ability to bring together thought and wisdom. I also appreciate the fleeting experience of dance, without ever truly understanding. Movement that brings forth questions of self, that challenges perception and offers perspective.
